The École normale supérieure is a students’ community as well as a place to study: the student in physics can meet the philosopher at the ciné-club, the geographer dances with the hellenist, the musicologist meets the informatician at the photo club and the economist plays rugby with the archeologist...
With more than 50 student-run groups proposing a diverse range of cultural, artistic and sporting activities, the ENS community enjoys a rich and varied panorama of extra-curricular options. Students can choose to participate in fencing clubs, media and cinema associations, theater and improvisation groups, public service organizations and more.
Campus-wide social events are also regularly organized. At the start of each academic year, the Social Activities Organizing Committee (Comité d’Organisation des Fêtes - COF) organizes the "Méga," an integration weekend for new students and oversees preparations for La Nuit de la rue d’Ulm, the ENS’s traditional gala.
The Sports Commission of the COF also coordinates sporting activities and organizes the InterENS, yearly sporting competitions between students of the ENS of Paris, Lyon, and Cachan. The Cultural Affairs section of the COF publishes Le Bocal, the weekly student journal, and an annual student yearbook. It also often provides students with discounted or free theater and concert tickets.
